Manchester United entertained Burnley at Old Trafford earlier tonight as they looked to secure all three points on the road. The home side made an excellent start to the game and got their noses ahead in the eight-minute when Scott McTominay scored with a great finish. Ben Mee netted an unfortunate own goal in the 27th minute which put daylight between the two sides. Cristiano Ronaldo got his name on the scoresheet just eight minutes later to make it 3-0 in favour of Man United. Aaron Lennon got a goal back for the Clarets soon after as the Red Devils went into the half-time break 3-1 up on the scoreline.
The Mancunian giants sat on their lead well in the second half and ended up earning a solid 3-1 victory in front of their home fans.
Let’s take a look at how each Man United player performed during the clash against the Clarets.
GK: David de Gea – 6/10
The Spaniard made a couple of solid saves but was a bit untidy with his ball distribution. He won’t be pleased after conceding a goal in the latter stages of the first half which ruined his chances of a clean sheet.
RB: Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 7/10
He was solid at the back and made a couple of decent chances for his teammates in the final third.
CB: Eric Bailly – 6.5/10
Bailly earned possession back a couple of times for his side and even made a good block. He got substituted in the 65th minute.
CB: Harry Maguire – 7/10
The English centre-back didn’t take too many chances when clearing his lines. He also won multiple headers in the air.
LB: Luke Shaw – 7.5/10
He performed his defensive duties well and engineered a few decent opportunities for his teammates to score.
CM: Scott McTominay – 8/10
McTominay was always willing to get forward and scored a great opening goal in the eighth minute. Ralf Rangnick would be quite happy with his performance tonight.
CM: Nemanja Matic – 6/10
The Serbia international did what was required of him at the centre of the park but offered very little in the final third.
RAM: Mason Greenwood – 7.5/10
Greenwood caused a lot of problems for the opposition with his dribbling and link-up play in and around the Burnley penalty box. However, there was no goal for him tonight.
LAM: Jadon Sancho – 6.5/10
The English winger had a couple of lively moments but didn’t do enough to score.
ST: Edinson Cavani – 7/10
The Uruguayan striker tried his best to cause a few headaches for the Burnley defenders but hardly got a sniff at goal.
ST: Cristiano Ronaldo – 8/10
Ronaldo was always willing to take a shot at goal and created two decent chances for others around him. He has got a goal and an assist to show for his efforts.
Substitutes:
CB: Raphael Varane – 6/10
He kept things solid at the back.
RAM: Diogo Dalot – 6/10
He won an aerial duel after coming on for the final ten minutes.
CM: Fred – N/A
The Brazilian talent hardly had a kick in the game after coming off the bench.
