Manchester United are fighting their way back to the ‘top four’ race overcoming the shambles under Ole Gunnar Solskjær, but they might still lose one of their key attackers in winter amid Sevilla’s interest in Anthony Martial, Sky Sports understands. The Frenchman is also keen on a move to Spain in order to get his career back on track after failing to secure a regular role in recent years.
The 26-year-old attacking ace left Monaco to join the Red Devils back in 2015 for an amount of around £36 million (potentially rising to £58 million), a then-record transfer fee for a teenager. He scored in his debut against Liverpool as a substitute and soon cemented a place high up the pitch under Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho.
But his minutes have been limited of late following the emergence of Mason Greenwood through the academy ranks. Persistent injury problems and lack of consistency refrained him from regaining the lost status and the summer arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho has further jeopardized his first-team future.
Martial has started just twice in the league and once in Europe so far this season. His representative Philippe Lamboley has already made the intention clear over a January swoop and the player, too, is set to hold talks with interim chief Ralf Rangnick prior to the upcoming window. Barcelona and Juventus have also registered interest, however, all three suitors are plotting an initial loan offer for the Les Bleus international.
Why Manchester United Should Sanction A Move For Their French Forward
Known for his versatility across the frontline, the ex-Monaco star progressed through the academy ranks of CO Les Ulis and Lyon. He has represented France in various youth levels and has fired 79 times and registered 50 assists in 268 appearances donning the Man United colours (stats via Transfermarket). But it’s time for a fresh start for the 2015 Golden Boy Award recipient having slipped down the pecking order behind the likes of Ronaldo, Sancho, Greenwood Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard.
As per the report, Martial prefers a move to Seville who would offer assured gametime over the other two European hotshots. They have shown a massive upsurge under Julen Lopetegui and are keeping pace with Real Madrid in the La Liga race almost halfway through the league campaign. His inclusion should bolster them in the attacking third and the move, therefore, would be a win-win for all parties involved.
