In a recent report, TyC stated that Manchester United have decided to move in for River Plate forward Julian Alvarez. It has been revealed that the Red Devils are eyeing a move to bring the Argentine talent to Old Trafford.
Alvarez’s Incredible Numbers In Argentine Football This Season
Alvarez is experiencing one of the best years of his young career and deserves a lot of credit for scoring goals at a high rate as the focal point of River Plate’s attack. The 21-year-old has found the back of the net on 18 occasions and grabbed seven assists in 21 matches for the Argentine club this season across all competitions.
The Calchin-born sensation has been a consistent performer in the attacking end of the field as he is averaging 3.1 shots, 2.1 key passes and 2.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Liga Profesional. However, he has been a bit sloppy with his ball distribution after making 73.2% of his attempted passes in the Argentine top tier (stats via whoscored).
Is Alvarez A Good Choice For Manchester United?
Alvarez can use his electric pace to get past his marker in the final third and has shown great maturity to set up some decent chances for others around him inside the opponent’s penalty box. More importantly, the Argentine marksman is developing himself into a lethal finisher in front of the opposition goal. However, he has to figure out a way to improve his link-up play if he wants to be a success story in English football.
At 21, Alvarez is only going to get better in the coming seasons which makes him an attractive, long-term option for Man United to consider next year. We can expect the Argentine player to add a lot of pace and goals to Ralf Rangnick‘s attack if the Red Devils can arrange a deal to lure him to the Theatre of Dreams during the winter transfer window.
All in all, Alvarez will be a great choice for the Mancunian giants as long as they are willing to be patient with his development over the next few years.
