In a recent report, The Athletic revealed that Manchester City have rejected Newcastle United’s loan bid for Cole Palmer. It is understood that the Mancunian giants have decided to decline Newcastle’s loan offer for the English talent as he remains an important member of Pep Guardiola’s squad.
Palmer’s Impressive Rise At Man City This Season
Palmer has served as a useful squad player at the Etihad Stadium during this campaign and has done well to put in a couple of productive displays as a key member of Guardiola’s attack. The 19-year-old has made 11 appearances for the Mancunian club this season, netting two goals in the process on all fronts.
The Wythenshawe-born sensation has seen most of his game time come off the bench which explains why he is only averaging 1.0 shots, 0.5 key passes and 0.3 dribbles per game in Premier League football. Palmer has been excellent when distributing the ball in the opposition half based on his pass success rate of 90.2% in league football (stats via whoscored).
Manchester City Reject Newcastle’s Loan Offer For Palmer: Good Move By Guardiola?
Palmer has decent pace under his belt and can make some clever runs with the ball towards the opponent’s penalty area. He can shoot the ball with power and accuracy from long range and can even create some meaningful openings for others around him.
The England Under-21 international has also got a good passing range but is still quite inexperienced at the highest level.
At the moment, Palmer is enjoying his football at Man City, so there is no reason for Guardiola to send him out on loan in January. He is good enough to earn a few first-team starts at the Etihad over the next few weeks when the fixtures come thick and fast in English football.
At 19, Palmer has got a very promising future ahead of him and could develop into a real gem under the stewardship of Guardiola. All in all, it seems a good move by the Spanish head coach to keep hold of the youngster as he could help Man City maintain their dominance in Premier League football.
