According to a recent report by City Xtra, Manchester City have been given the green light to make a move for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria. The Swiss international is out of contract at the end of the season and has been confirmed by the Bundesliga club that he is set to leave. It is believed that Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is looking to add reinforcements to his midfield options and have identified Denis Zakaria as an ideal option.
Zakaria A Midfield Mainstay At Borussia Monchengladbach
The Swiss international joined Borussia Monchengladbach in 2017 and has been a key player for the squad since then. The 25-year-old has made 141 appearances for the German club registering 11 goals and 8 assists for them. Zakaria has had a number of setbacks due to injuries, but he is now believed to be fully fit and is back to his best form again this season.
Denis Zakaria has also played a vital role in helping Switzerland qualify for the World Cup in 2022 earlier this year. He is now tipped to play out his contract at Borussia Monchengladbach and move to the Premier League where he is wanted by several clubs including the likes of West Ham United, Liverpool and Everton.
Right Choice For Pep Guardiola?
Denis Zakaria is a versatile player who can play as a deep midfielder as well as in a box-to-box role and also as a centre-back if needed. Zakaria is very strong in the air and likes to win duels in the middle of the park and also has the ability to shield the ball and protect the central defenders. Zakaria can use his quickness to make good runs with the ball towards the opponent’s penalty area. He is a decent playmaker in the middle of the park and has got a good work rate to make life difficult for the opposition at the centre of the park.
Manchester City are eyeing to replace Fernandinho whose contract ends this summer with a player of Zakaria’s ability who can serve the club for years to come. It is without a doubt that the Swiss international will add a lot of quality to Pep’s midfield. Now it remains to be seen if Manchester City can rope in the midfielder for free ahead of their rivals in January by offering him a pre-contract.
