According to Calciomercato, Liverpool remain in contention to sign Piotr Zielinski. The Premier League giants have been following the Napoli playmaker ever since his days at Udinese and could make an attempt to sign him in the future. Zielinski’s current deal at Napoli runs until 2024, but it won’t be surprising to see the Polish international depart Naples despite the club’s excellent start to the season.
Piotr Zielinski: One Of The Best In Serie A?
A product of the Lubin youth academy, Piotr Zielinski had moved to Italy way back in 2011 joining Udinese. However, he made his actual breakthrough in Serie A during a two-year loan spell at Empoli, eventually earning a move to Napoli in 2016.
During his time in Naples, Zielinski has featured in over 250 competitive matches for the club, scoring 38 goals while providing 33 assists. While his numbers at Napoli may seem underwhelming for someone who had started his career as a dynamic number ten, the Pole has transformed into a more versatile player in recent years.
Indeed, Zielinski has largely played as a central midfielder, often partnering Fabian Ruiz to add more creativity in the Napoli midfield. Not to mention, since the start of the 2020/21 campaign, he has been involved in 29 league goals in 53 league matches, with his contributions this season helping Napoli emerge as a potential title contender in Serie A.
A Wise Option For Liverpool?
Liverpool are in dire need of reinforcements in the creative department. Although the Reds have had no problems scoring goals, they are often over-reliant on the services of their front three, with Jurgen Klopp often lacking a midfielder who can become the bridge between midfield and attack.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has done well to provide the backup, but the likes of Naby Keita and Curtis Jones have struggled with injuries. Therefore, the potential addition of someone like Piotr Zielinski could prove to be a smart move by the Merseyside giants.
An attacking midfielder by trade, the Napoli superstar can be an ideal midfield partner for the likes of Fabinho, Thiago and Jordan Henderson. His ability to march forward with the ball, coupled with his creativity and technical prowess could add another dimension to Liverpool’s chance creation.
It could ultimately take some of the burden off from the attacking duo of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, thus making Zielinski an ideal investment for the Premier League giants.
