Liverpool faced off against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium earlier tonight as they looked to secure all three points and close the gap to Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table. The Reds dominated the game in the first half but wasted a glorious chance to get ahead as Mohamed Salah missed his penalty and could only hit the post on the rebound. Both sides went into the half-time break with a 0-0 scoreline.
The Reds were lackluster in the second half and conceded the opening goal in the 59th minute when Ademola Lookman scored with a great finish. The Merseyside outfit threw everything but the kitchen sink in the latter stages of the game. However, their efforts were in vain as they suffered a poor 1-0 defeat on the road.
Let’s take a look at how each Liverpool player performed during the match against the Foxes.
GK: Alisson Becker – 6/10
The Brazilian keeper hardly had anything to do in the game but will be disappointed after getting beaten at his near-post during Lookman’s goal.
RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7/10
The English right-back played some sublime crosses to Tsimikas and was Liverpool’s main creative outlet. However, his delivery from corners left a lot to be desired.
CB: Joel Matip – 6/10
Matip dealt with mostly everything that came his way but should have probably gotten a challenge in on Lookman in the lead-up to Leicester’s match-winner.
CB: Virgil Van Dijk – 7/10
The Dutch defender neutralised the threat of Jamie Vardy but couldn’t do anything about Lookman’s finish in the 59th minute.
LB: Konstantinos Tsimikas – 7.5/10
The Greek defender made some driving runs to the by-line and delivered a few inviting crosses into the Leicester penalty box. He even performed his defensive duties quite well during the game.
CM: Jordan Henderson – 6/10
The Liverpool captain saw a lot of the ball and retained possession with ease for his team. However, his shooting was woeful tonight.
CM: Fabinho – 6/10
The Brazil international was sometimes too slow to react to the danger which was unlike him. He got replaced in the second half.
CM: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 6/10
He kept the ball moving with conviction in midfield but offered very little in the final third.
RW: Mohamed Salah – 6/10
The Egyptian wing wizard caused a few headaches for the Leicester defenders but missed a penalty and was denied time and time again by some brilliant goalkeeping from Kasper Schmeichel.
ST: Diogo Jota – 6/10
He got himself into some dangerous positions inside the Leicester penalty box but struggled to find the cutting edge in the final third.
LW: Sadio Mane – 6/10
The Senegalese winger stretched the Foxes’ defence effectively during the game but wasted a wonderful chance to score in the second half.
Substitutes:
CM: Naby Keita – 6/10
He added more energy and dynamism to Liverpool’s midfield.
CM: James Milner – 6/10
The veteran midfielder worked hard but was too slow to get to the ball at times in the latter stages.
ST: Roberto Firmino – 6/10
He didn’t get a sniff at goal.
