According to a recent report by the Sportmediaset, Everton are set to be offered Arthur Melo in a swap deal with Lucas Digne from Juventus. The Italian giants are ready to part ways with the Brazilian in the upcoming transfer window and are looking to bring in the French side-back Lucas Digne from Everton. Digne has been a subject of controversy in the Merseyside dressing room after a fall-out with his boss Rafael Benitez as the Toffees look to offload him. This issue has given Juventus an opportunity to sign the Frenchman in the upcoming transfer window.
Lucas Digne Frozen Out Of The First Team
Lucas Digne arrived in Everton in 2018 and has been a key player for them since then. The Frenchman had a couple of brilliant seasons at the Merseyside club providing 14 assists in 65 appearances from left full-back. He was one of the key creative outlets for the Toffees under his previous manager Carlo Ancelotti. But things turned the wrong way after the arrival of Rafael Benitez at the club.
After making 13 appearances in the league this season, Benitez criticized Digne for his performances. Both of them fell out as Benitez froze Digne out of the first-team squad and since then the Frenchman hasn’t made a single appearance for the club. It is believed that the Toffees are considering selling Digne and are already looking out for an alternative left-back in the market.
Can Everton Afford To Lose Digne?
Lucas Digne has been a standout player for Everton in the past two seasons and losing him will be a big blow to the Toffees. His attacking qualities are one of the best in the league and Everton depended a lot on his creativity to score goals in the previous seasons. Digne has the ability to make overlapping runs and provide the accuracy in the final third which Everton are missing this season.
It is believed that the Toffees are already in search of a new left-back and wants to sell Digne in the upcoming transfer window. With Juventus offering Arthur Melo in place of Digne, it might tempt the Toffees to sell the Frenchman. A player of Arthur’s calibre has till now failed to catch the eye in the Serie A but there isn’t any doubt regarding the potential that the Brazilian carries. Now it remains to be seen if both the clubs agree on a deal for the probable transfer.
