In a recent tweet, Colombian journalist Luis Diaz has claimed that Everton are among several clubs hoping to recruit FC Porto winger Luis Diaz. It has been stated that the Toffees could face competition from Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea and Liverpool in pursuit of the Colombian wide player.
Diaz’s Outstanding Campaign In Portuguese Football
The 24-year-old has made a brilliant start to this campaign after producing a series of eye-catching displays as a key member of FC Porto’s attack. Diaz has participated in 19 matches for the Portuguese giants this season, netting 12 goals and providing two assists in all competitions.
The Barrancas-born sensation deserves a lot of credit for averaging 2.8 shots, 1.9 key passes and 2.6 dribbles per game in the Liga Bwin. He has even been tidy when distributing possession in the attacking end of the field as he has made 82% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Portuguese football (stats via whoscored).
Is Diaz The Right Fit For Everton Boss Rafael Benitez?
Diaz can use his electric pace and agility to make some excellent runs with the ball out on the wide areas. He is a decent playmaker in the final third and has developed himself into a composed finisher in front of the opposition goal. The Liga Bwin talent is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also operate down the right-wing if needed.
Based on his recent form, Diaz would be a great signing for the Toffees as Rafael Benitez is in dire need to add more quality to his frontline. The Colombian sensation fits the Spanish head coach’s need perfectly and could go on to form a fruitful attacking partnership with Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin at Goodison Park in the coming seasons.
At 24, Diaz has got a very promising future ahead of him and would be a decent fit for Benitez’s style of play at the Merseyside club. The Porto star will add a lot of pace and goals to Everton’s attacking department. Thus, the Toffees should consider going all out in the race to secure the signature of the Colombian wing wizard this January or at the end of this season.
