Manchester City clashed heads with Brentford at the Brentford Community Stadium earlier tonight as they looked to secure all three points on the road. The Mancunian giants made a quick start to the game and took the lead in the 16th minute courtesy of Phil Foden’s clinical finish. Pep Guardiola’s men controlled the ball well and went into the half-time break 1-0 up on the scoreline.
Man City managed the game well in the second 45 minutes and did enough to secure a narrow 1-0 victory away from home.
Let’s take a look at how each Manchester City player performed during the match against the Bees.
GK: Ederson – 7/10
The Brazilian keeper made a couple of decent saves during the game and earned an important clean sheet tonight.
RB: Joao Cancelo – 7/10
The Portuguese talent was strong in the air and gave a good account of himself on the defensive end of the field. He even made one key chance going forward.
CB: Ruben Dias – 7/10
Dias did what was required of him at the back and performed well enough to secure another shutout on the road.
CB: Aymeric Laporte – 6.5/10
He was solid at the back but was unfortunate to see his goal get chalked off by VAR due to offside.
LB: Nathan Ake – 7/10
Ake didn’t put a foot wrong when defending inside his half. He did well to fill in as a makeshift left-back.
CM: Kevin De Bruyne – 8/10
The Belgian international engineered a lot of inviting chances for others around him and probably should have scored tonight as well. He ended the match with an assist to his name.
CM: Fernandinho – 7/10
He protected his backline well and was also quite lively in the Brentford half.
CM: Bernardo Silva – 6.5/10
Silva made one good opportunity in the final third but was mostly quiet during the game.
RW: Gabriel Jesus – 7/10
The Brazilian attacker made a few promising runs down the right flank but couldn’t take any of his chances.
ST: Jack Grealish – 6.5/10
Grealish retained possession with conviction but never looked like he would score tonight.
LW: Phil Foden – 7.5/10
The English attacker scored the only goal of the game with a great finish in the 16th minute. He was also a great outlet for Man City in the latter stages of the game.
