According to Rudy Galetti, Malang Sarr could be on the verge of a move away from Stamford Bridge. His agent has already offered the player to AC Milan and Napoli. It appears he could leave the club on a loan deal to begin with, possibly with an obligation to buy embedded in the contract.
Malang Sarr’s Struggles At Chelsea
Malang Sarr joined Chelsea in the summer of 2020 on a free transfer. He was coming on the back of an excellent spell at Nice, having established himself as one of the most talented young centre-backs in Ligue 1. However, he was immediately loaned out to FC Porto in order to gain more first-team experience.
Sarr’s spell in Portugal didn’t quite pan out the way the defender would have expected, with the Frenchman featuring in just eight league matches before returning to Stamford Bridge in the summer.
Despite interest from other clubs, Sarr ended up remaining at Chelsea. But it appears the move has backfired, with the former Nice defender struggling to gain regular game-time under Thomas Tuchel.
As we head towards the halfway point of the campaign, Sarr has featured in just one league game. In total, he has made only five competitive appearances, three of which have come in the Carabao Cup.
Should Chelsea Sanction His Exit?
The speculations surrounding the future of Malang Sarr is hardly surprising as the player has failed to make an impact at Stamford Bridge this season. He has fallen behind the likes of Antonio Rudiger, Andrea Christensen, Cesar Azpilicueta, Trevoh Chalobah and Thiago Silva in the pecking order.
While Chelsea are facing a battle to keep hold of the likes of Rudiger, Christensen and Azpilicueta, it appears unlikely that Sarr will be able to earn a more prominent role for himself in the first team, especially with the Blues ready to enter the market for defensive reinforcements in January.
Tuchel himself does not rate Sarr highly, which has led to his lack of game-time at Stamford Bridge. Hence, Chelsea should certainly sanction an exit for the Frenchman next month, as he seeks to make a name for himself in other leagues.
Milan or Napoli, to that end, could be ideal destinations, with Milan already making a good account of themselves by nurturing an ex-Chelsea starlet in Fikayo Tomori. It will be interesting to see if Sarr partners the Englishman at San Siro during the second half of the campaign.
