Chelsea entertained Brighton and Hove Albion at Stamford Bridge earlier tonight as they looked to secure all three points on their travels. The Blues made a solid start to the game and got their noses ahead in the 28th minute when Romelu Lukaku found the back of the net with a good header. The West London outfit went into the half-time interval 1-0 up on the scoreline.
Thomas Tuchel’s men sat on their lead for most of the second half but conceded the equaliser in injury-time when Danny Welbeck scored with an excellent header. The contest finished 1-1 with both teams sharing the points.
Let’s take a look at how each Chelsea player performed during the clash against the Seagulls.
GK: Edouard Mendy – 7/10
The Chelsea keeper made some solid saves during the game but couldn’t do much about Welbeck’s accurate header in injury-time which ruined his hopes of a clean sheet.
CB: Cesar Azpilicueta – 7/10
The Spaniard showed a lot of fight when defending inside his half. He earned the ball back a few times and even pulled off some last-gasp clearances during the game.
CB: Andreas Christensen – 7/10
He performed his defensive duties well in the first half but could only last 45 minutes.
CB: Antonio Rudiger – 6.5/10
Rudiger made a couple of clearances during the game and was a strong presence in the air. However, he won’t be pleased after conceding such a late goal.
RM: Christian Pulisic – 6/10
He made a couple of exciting runs with the ball but offered very little in the final third.
CM: Mateo Kovacic – 6.5/10
Kovacic was full of energy and running at the centre of the park but struggled to create any meaningful openings in the final third.
CM: Jorginho – 7/10
The Italy international anchored the midfield with conviction but failed to influence the game in the Brighton half.
LM: Reece James – 6/10
He picked up an injury and got substituted in the 26th minute.
RAM: Mason Mount – 8/10
Mount wasted a couple of decent chances to score tonight. However, he created several promising chances for others around him and has got an assist to show for his efforts.
LAM: Callum Hudson-Odoi – 6/10
He failed to give a good account of himself in the final third and got replaced in the 66th minute.
ST: Romelu Lukaku – 7.5/10
Lukaku scored the opener with a solid header from close range in the 28th minute. He ran the channels well and was one of Tuchel’s better players on the field tonight.
Substitutes:
LM: Marcos Alonso – 6/10
The Spanish talent did what was required of him defensively but failed to make an impact in the opponent’s half.
CB: Trevoh Chalobah – 6/10
He defended with conviction but will be disappointed after allowing such a late goal.
CM: NGolo Kante – 6/10
Kante added some energy and dynamism to Tuchel’s midfield.
