Chelsea locked horns with Aston Villa at Villa Park earlier this evening as they looked to pick up maximum points on the road. The Blues made a solid start to the game but conceded the opening goal in the 28th minute when Reece James netted an unfortunate own goal. However, Jorginho scored the leveller just six minutes later from the penalty spot as both teams went into the half-time interval with a 1-1 scoreline.
Substitute Romelu Lukaku completed the turnaround for Chelsea in the 56th minute with a good header before going on to earn a penalty injury-time which Jorginho converted with ease. The match ended with the West London outfit earning an impressive 3-1 win at Villa Park.
Let’s take a look at how each Chelsea player fared during the match against the Villans.
GK: Edouard Mendy – 6/10
He could have done better to prevent James’ own goal in the first half. Mendy was relatively untroubled throughout the remainder of the game.
CB: Trevoh Chalobah – 7/10
Chalobah made some important defensive contributions at the back and was tidy with his passing. He got replaced at half-time.
CB: Thiago Silva – 6.5/10
The Brazilian centre-back made a couple of crucial interceptions during the game and did enough to restrict the opposition to just one goal.
CB: Antonio Rudiger – 7/10
Rudiger was always willing to make a tackle and cleared the danger convincingly when needed.
RM: Reece James – 7/10
James scored an unfortunate own goal in the 28th minute. However, he came back and produced a battling display by winning the ball back multiple times for his side.
CM: N’Golo Kante – 7/10
The French midfield ace pulled off two interceptions and made a couple of decent runs with the ball from midfield. He got substituted after the hour mark.
CM: Jorginho – 8/10
The Italian international made one good chance during the game and scored both of his penalties to give Chelsea a good win away from home.
LM: Marcos Alonso – 7/10
The Spaniard performed his defensive duties well and created two good chances in the final third.
RAM: Mason Mount – 6.5/10
Mount had a few bright moments in the game but wasted a glorious chance to find the back of the net.
LAM: Callum Hudson-Odoi – 7.5/10
He caused a lot of headaches for the opposition but struggled to be clinical in the attacking end of the field. At least, Hudson-Odoi has an assist to show for his efforts.
ST: Christian Pulisic – 6.5/10
Pulisic liked up play well with others around him but never got a sniff at the goal.
Substitutes:
ST: Romelu Lukaku – 8/10
His pace and power caused a lot of problems for the Villa centre-backs in the second half. He scored Chelsea’s second goal and earned the penalty in injury-time which Jorginho converted to seal the points for the visitors.
CB: Andreas Christensen – 6.5/10
Christensen kept things solid at the back.
CM: Mateo Kovacic – 7/10
He made a powerful run with the ball towards the Villa penalty box.
