Real Madrid are hoping to seal the top spot in Group D in the Champions League as they take on Inter Milan on Tuesday. The Spanish giants are currently at the top of the group with 12 points, but a defeat to Inter could see them move down to second place ensuring a relatively tougher draw in the knockout stages. But Los Blancos remain favourites to remain top nonetheless, having secured victories in all of their last eight matches in all competitions.
Predicted Real Madrid Lineup Vs Inter Milan
Defence
Carlo Ancelotti isn’t missing too many defenders heading into this clash, thus giving him the privilege to shuffle his pack a little. However, given the importance of this fixture, the Italian is likely to continue with the trusted defensive combo of Eder Militao and David Alaba.
There should be no changes elsewhere as well, with Dani Carvajal hoping to continue at right-back, ahead of Lucas Vazquez. The same can be said for Ferland Mendy on the opposite flank, although Marcelo’s experience can always prove to be useful in games of this magnitude.
Meanwhile, Thibaut Courtois is aiming to extend his run of back to back clean sheets to three games in all competitions. He has already managed three shutouts in the Champions League, including the reverse fixture against Inter earlier in the campaign.
Midfield
Things could get a bit more interesting in the midfield department. Carlo Ancelotti has received directions from Florentino Perez to put more faith in the younger options such as Federico Valverde and Eduardo Camavinga.
However, the former Bayern Munich head coach may prefer the experience of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric ahead of youthful exuberance. The two will hope to add stability in the middle of the park, with additional support from Casemiro in the number six slot.
Attack
Real Madrid were dealt with a massive blow on the weekend when Karim Benzema picked up a hamstring injury in the win over Real Sociedad. He has been ruled out for this clash, which could force Ancelotti to deploy Luke Jovic in the number nine role.
The young Serb will be aided by the wide offensive duo of Vinicius Junior and Eden Hazard, who is likely to replace Rodrygo on the far side. But alongside Rodrygo, Ancelotti has some serious firepower on the bench including Marco Asensio, Lucas Vazquez and Isco.
