Bamford To Return? | Predicted 4-2-3-1 Leeds United Lineup To Face Burnley

Despite a top-half finish on their return to Premier League last season, Leeds United are struggling this term due to form and fitness concerns. They endured three successive defeats prior to their Boxing day test against Liverpool which got postponed in the wake of a covid outbreak. But the Whites must step up their game on Sunday afternoon against Burnley to climb up the ladder midway through the campaign.

While both sides are struggling lower down the standings, Leeds might be handed injury boosts with Patrick Bamford, Daniel James, Pascal Struijk and Rodrigo potentially in line for a weekend return. They conceded 14 goals in their last three fixtures and the gaffer must make alterations to improve the record.

Defence

Illan Meslier has cemented a place between the sticks and the young Frenchman should retain the ‘number 1’ spot in spite of conceding far too many goals in recent outings.

However, it’s difficult to predict Leeds‘ ‘back four’ for the Clarets tie. Skipper Liam Cooper is unlikely to recover in time, but they might have Diego Llorente back who was tested positive before locking horns with Arsenal. The Spaniard should partner Robin Koch in the heart of the backline, allowing Luke Ayling to feature from his preferred right-back spot. Junior Firpo missed the Gunners game due to an accumulation of bookings but is expected to return as a left fullback overcoming his shambles against Manchester City.

Midfield

Bielsa was forced to tweak his formation of late amid the injury absence of Kalvin Phillips. Adam Forshaw has grabbed the opportunities in the centre of the pitch and should retain his place as a double pivot alongside Mateusz Klich. Versatile Stuart Dallas might operate from an advanced midfield slot, also the directness and work ethic of Jack Harrison from the left-hand flank would cause menace in Burnley defence. Raphinha has been the standout performer down the right and the Elland Road faithful must be relying on the high-flying Brazilian to clinch their first victory in a month.

Attack

Rodrigo, Patrick Bamford and Daniel James are in contention for the weekend clash. Although Tyler Roberts remains an option high up the pitch, the manager must opt for Bamford’s prolific poaching traits, considering he is available. It’s been a stop-start season for the English hitman through persistent injury problems and his minutes must be managed minutely to avoid further setbacks in the coming days.
