Note from Editor: This game has been postponed by the Premier League after Newcastle United requested one due to an outbreak of COVID-19 cases and injuries in their squad.
Newcastle United face Everton at Goodison Park on Thursday in a midweek Premier League fixture. Eddie Howe’s men have only won once in the Premier League and currently sit 19th on the table after 19 games. The Magpies are desperately in search of wins to have any chance of staying up for the next season.
Eddie Howe will be highly impressed with Newcastle United‘s performance against Manchester United on Monday, where they were in the lead for 64 minutes and were good value for a point at the end. Everton are 15th in the table, and Howe will know that the Magpies need to rack up wins against bottom half sides to have any chance of staying up in the league.
4-3-2-1 Newcastle United Predicted Lineup Vs Everton
Defence
Martin Dubravka will continue between the sticks for the Magpies as he aims for his 2nd cleansheet of the season on Thursday.
The centre-back pairing of Jamaal Lascelles and Fabian Schar will start at the heart of the defence, looking to emulate their performance against Burnley where they secured their first cleansheet of the season. Concentration throughout the 90 minutes will be important for them to see out the Everton attackers. Both Ciaran Clark and Federico Fernandez are unavailable for the clash.
The Magpies will continue to miss Jamal Lewis due to a hamstring injury. Javier Manquillo and Emil Krafth is expected to start as fullbacks and will look to make overlapping runs to create chances for the Newcastle attackers.
Midfield
Eddie Howe has recently opted to go with a 3-man midfield of Jonjo Shelvey, Sean Longstaff and Joelinton. He is expected to do the same against the Toffees. Joelinton has been crucial to this Newcastle side playing the box-to-box role. Shelvey will sit in that number 6 role, looking to play it long towards the strikers to run in behind the Everton defence.
Joe Willock and Matt Ritchie are both unavailable after testing positive for Covid-19. Jeff Hendrick will be on the bench again and will hope to get some minutes later in the game.
Attack
The Magpies will be missing 2 of their best attackers for this clash after both Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin suffered injuries against Manchester United on Monday. Eddie Howe will need to cope without his highest goalscorer and best creator for this tie.
Dwight Gayle is expected to lead the line with the likes of Miguel Almiron and Ryan Fraser playing behind him. Newcastle will have high hopes from Gayle regarding rediscovering his form to have any chance of grabbing 3 points on Thursday.
