Chelsea will entertain Leeds United at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon as they try to return to winning ways in the Premier League. The Blues were held to a 3-3 draw by FC Zenit in midweek, so Thomas Tuchel will be eager to get a much-improved performance from his players versus the Whites this weekend.
The German head coach will set his men up in a 3-4-2-1 formation once again and is expected to revert to his strongest XI for this game. Kai Havertz will once again lead the line for the West London giants up top while Romelu Lukaku settles for a spot on the bench.
3-4-2-1 Chelsea Predicted Lineup To Face Leeds United
Defence
Edouard Mendy will operate as Tuchel’s first-choice keeper after being rested versus FC Zenit in the UEFA Champions League earlier this week. The Chelsea boss could name a back three of Antonio Rudiger, Thiago Silva and Andreas Christensen for this game. The defensive trio will have to work hard collectively to stop the Leeds attackers from scoring throughout the 90 minutes.
Cesar Azpilicueta will have to be content with a place on the bench as he offers cover for the centre-back positions.
Midfield
Jorginho is a slight doubt for this game but should recover in time to play alongside Ruben Loftus-Cheek at the heart of Tuchel’s midfield. Marcos Alonso will be a guaranteed starter down the left flank while Reece James hopes to catch the eye as the right wing-back.
Both Hakim Ziyech and Mason Mount will get the freedom to play as the attacking midfielders in the Leeds United half. Mount failed to register a goal in midweek, so we can expect him to be eager to make a difference for Chelsea in the final third this Saturday afternoon.
Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi will be named on the bench as they wait for their chance to make an impact in the second half if required.
Attack
Kai Havertz will get the nod to spearhead Tuchel’s attack up top. The German attacker will have to find a way to cause a few problems for the Whites centre-backs and create enough openings for others around him in the attacking end of the field.
Both Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku will be available for selection on the bench and might come on to influence the game in the final quarter of the game if the Blues are in need of a goal by then.
