In a recent interview with Football Insider, Noel Whelan was left impressed by Leeds United starlet Cody Drameh’s development at Elland Road. Whelan said, “A really, really solid performance from the young man.
“Another one that’s highly rated at the football club. You can see he’s got a natural ability in that right full-back position.
“Very good on the ball, he got better and better and more involved in the game the longer it went on. Another young player that is putting up stiff competition for the more senior players.
“That’s Ayling and you can say Shackleton as well because he’s been around the first team for four seasons.
“Drameh is somebody that you look at and you can rely on. He’s going to pose some questions to the manager when it comes to that right-back position.
“We do know that we’ve got strength in depth in that area as well, which is always nice. Another one for the future where it’s probably another base covered that we don’t need to look to buy.”
Drameh’s Recent Rise At Elland Road
Drameh made his Premier League debut recently against Norwich City as he helped the Whites pick up a 2-1 victory at Carrow Road while playing as their primary right-back. At the tender age of 19, he has already featured in two senior matches for the West Yorkshire giants so far but is waiting to score his first goal for the club.
The talented youngster caught the eye with his performances for Leeds United’s Under-23 side after making 32 appearances for them, registering one goal and four assists in the process. If Drameh can continue to impress at the senior level, there is no doubt that he will have a good chance of becoming a regular feature in Marcelo Bielsa‘s starting XI in the coming seasons.
Is Drameh A Prospect For The Future?
Drameh has decent pace under his belt and can make some good runs down the right flank. He has a good work rate and can deliver a few inviting crosses into the opposition penalty box. The English right-back is slowly transforming himself into a reliable defender at the back. However, he is still quite inexperienced, so Bielsa cannot risk throwing him into the deep waters of first-team football week in week out.
Drameh has proved that he is learning and making progress with each game. Thus, there is no doubt that the Leeds United whizkid will be a prospect to watch out for in the future as he has got the makings of a top-class full-back.
Currently, Drameh should concentrate on getting better on the field so that he can push for a first-team place at Elland Road in the coming seasons. Bielsa can definitely use someone of his talents as he tries to steer the club towards another top-half finish in the Premier League table this season.
