In a recent report by La Gazzeta dello Sport, they have stated that Manchester United’s Paul Pogba would prefer a return to Juventus despite interest from Paris Saint Germain and Real Madrid. The French midfielder’s contract runs out at the end of the season and it is believed that Pogba won’t sign another contract with the Red Devils since there has been no discussion regarding fresh terms with United.
Paul Pogba’s Strange Start To The Season
The French midfielder hasn’t been able to live up to his price since his move from Juventus in 2016. After recording 7 assists in the first 4 games of the season, Pogba’s performance has fallen off the radar as Manchester United have been picked off by teams in the middle of the park. For defensive solidity, Ole has preferred both Mctominay and Fred over Pogba. It has been difficult for Pogba to play up the pitch in a free role since Bruno came in as he has been United’s key player for the last 2 seasons in that role.
The United fans have always backed Pogba but his inconsistency has made them believe that the team is better off without him. Entering his last season of the contract, it is now more likely that Pogba would prefer a move away rather than extending with the Red Devils. Despite a positive start to the season, Pogba has failed to register any goal or assist in his last 8 appearances for the club, and a red card in the derby against Liverpool didn’t help his case too.
Should Ole Gunner Solskjaer Keep Hold Of Him?
It would be a difficult task for Ole and Manchester United to keep hold of Paul Pogba after the season ends. With the likes of Juventus and Paris Saint Germain interested in his services, it is believed that Pogba might be more inclined to leave than stay after his mediocre career at Manchester United.
Looking at Paul Pogba’s performances over the past few seasons, Ole won’t be highly disappointed to see the midfielder leave. What would disappoint Ole and his staff more is that the club won’t be able to get any money from the deal and invest it in the market. Ole already has the services of Donny Van de Beek who has hardly got any chances to impress the manager but it is believed that if Pogba leaves, it will open the door for Van de Beek to make much more appearances for the club and a chance to prove his mettle as a Manchester United player.
Manchester United would look to dig deep into the transfer market to bolster their midfield options with Pogba’s wage being emptied and the deal would be good for both sides taking everything into consideration.
