In a recent interview with MOT Leeds News, former Premier League keeper Paul Robinson urged Leeds United to land Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks. Robinson said,
“They missed out there with Conor Gallagher at Palace.
“I think it was just down to where Leeds is in the country to where Palace is from his parent club.
“That might’ve had something to do with it.
“That was a real miss for Leeds.
“I know I keep banging on about it but again, there’s a real opportunity for them to get Harry Winks.
“He hasn’t been in Tottenham’s last two Premier League squads and I think he’s a proven England international.
“For whatever reason, Nuno Espirito Santo didn’t fancy him at Spurs, he’s not getting game-time.
“I just think it’s a real easy opportunity to get a top-quality player in the position they need.
“There’ll be a few takers for Harry Winks come January, there’s a real opportunity to get him.”
Winks’ Limited Role At North London This Season
Winks has found game time hard to come by at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium during this campaign. The English talent was mostly a sporadic feature in former Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad as he made just six senior appearances for the North London outfit, picking up one assist on all fronts.
The 25-year-old has lost his first-team privileges to Oliver Skipp who has received a lot of game time alongside Pierre-Emile Højbjerg at the heart of the Tottenham midfield. Hence, Leeds United will be in a good position to recruit Winks if they can convince the player to seal a move to Elland Road this winter.
Is Winks A Good Option For Leeds United?
Winks is a hard-working midfielder who can get stuck in with some solid tackles to make life difficult for the opposition at the centre of the park. He can read the danger quickly that allows him to earn possession back for his team.
The ten-time England international can even make some energetic runs with the ball from midfield. However, he needs to find a way to be more consistent with his performances on the field. At the moment, Leeds United have the luxury to offer Winks regular first-team opportunities which might help them get him on board during the January transfer window.
We can expect the Tottenham outcast to add more energy and dynamism to Marcelo Bielsa‘s midfield department. Furthermore, Winks has what it takes to increase competition for places within the Whites’ match-day squad which makes him a good option for the Elland Road-based club to pursue at the start of next year.
