In a recent report, The Daily Mail stated that Newcastle United are keeping tabs on West Bromwich Albion Under-18 striker Reyes Cleary. It has been revealed that the Magpies could rival Bayern Munich, Crystal Palace, Schalke, Borussia Dortmund and Hoffenheim in the race to sign the Baggies youngster.
Cleary’s Excellent Rise In English Football
Cleary has caught the eye by putting in several eye-catching performances for the Baggies’ youth ranks recently. The English prospect is a product of West Brom’s academy and has done well to find the back of the net on 16 occasions and register three assists in 21 appearances for their Under-18 team so far.
The 17-year-old has been in red hot form in the U-18 Premier League where he has banged in eight goals in just five appearances this season. Hence, it is no surprise that so many top clubs including Newcastle United are monitoring his development.
Newcastle United Monitoring Cleary’s Progress: Is He A Prospect For The Future?
Cleary has proven himself to be a prolific goal-scorer in the youth levels of English football. He is a composed presence in the final third but is yet to break out as a first-team starter at the Hawthorns. Still, the English teenager deserves a lot of credit for making a name for himself for West Brom’s Under-18 side this season.
At 17, Cleary has the potential to become a top striker someday which makes him an attractive, long-term option for the Magpies to pursue next year. Newcastle’s new boss, Eddie Howe has got the experience to nurture the Baggies whizkid’s development in the coming seasons in the hopes of making him a first-team starter at St. James’ Park someday.
Cleary is undeniably a prospect to watch out for in the future as long as he continues to work hard on improving himself over the next few years. However, the Tyneside giants would have to be patient with his progress if they want to see the best out of him in top-flight football.
