In a recent report by ABC Sevilla, Manchester United have set their sights on Sevilla’s Jules Kounde with the winter transfer window coming up. It is believed that Manchester United will have to pay up the £68m release clause within his current contract to get the services of the young French defender. After not considering Chelsea’s offer last season, Sevilla are now concerned that United can lure away the defender by paying his release clauses to partner him with his national teammate Raphael Varane at the heart of their defence.
Jules Kounde’s Huge Progress In The Last Two Years
Kounde is considered to be one of the best young defenders in Europe after moving to Sevilla in 2019. His performances were key in Sevilla winning the UEFA Europa League that season. Kounde also had a solid campaign last year guiding Sevilla to a top four finish which earned them a Champions League spot for this season. He has also been called upon in the France national team and won the Nations Trophy with them recently.
With several top clubs wanting the services of the French defender and him being an undisputed starter at the club, Sevilla are believed to be asking for a huge amount close to £80m for his departure. But Jules Kounde has already proved that he is worth the amount in his time here at Sevilla.
Should Manchester United Buy Jules Kounde In The Winter Transfer Market?
Manchester United have struggled with a leaky defence from the beginning of the new season. With summer signing Raphael Varane spending some time out in the sidelines with an injury, United’s defence has been all over the place without him. Captain Harry Maguire is also not in his best shape and this has given manager Ole Gunner Solskjaer the right reasons to opt for a centre-back in the coming winter window.
United have conceded 17 goals in 11 Premier League games this season and find themselves out of the Champions League places currently. Jules Kounde will no doubt be a massive upgrade in the defence and his chemistry with national teammate Varane can be Ole’s solution to forming a strong backline for the rest of the games left in the season. Manchester United have already spent big last summer with the signings of Jadon Sancho, Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane and it remains to be seen if they opt to buy the French defender for a massive £80m price as valued by the Spanish club.
