According to the journalist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are set to open contract talks with Sadio Mane with the Senegalese having only 18 months left in his contract. Liverpool are believed to be preparing the first approaches to Mane to enter into contract negotiations as many clubs are keeping a tab on Mane’s situation. Liverpool consider this deal to be a top priority along with extending the contract of Salah to tie both their African stars for many more years to come. While a lot of clubs are hoping for the contract talks to fall off in order to lure away Sadio Mane for free, Liverpool remain confident that they can reach an agreement with the Senegalese.
Sadio Mane A Star At Liverpool
Sadio Mane signed for Liverpool in 2016 and has been one of the main men for the club since then. He has been a key player in Liverpool winning the Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League in 2020. The forward has scored 84 goals for the Reds in the league along with 28 assists in 174 appearances, winning the title in 2020 which was Liverpool’s first in 30 years. Mane also helped Liverpool win their 6th Champions League trophy making crucial contributions in the knockout stages including 2 goals against favourites Bayern Munich.
Sadio Mane has been a consistent performer for Liverpool under Klopp and it is believed that the club will find it difficult to replace him in the market anytime soon. With his contract coming to end in 2023, Liverpool will look to secure him for another few years considering that he will still be in his prime.
Should Liverpool Offer Mane A Contract Extension?
After the end of the 2020-21 season where Sadio Mane struggled with form, it was believed that the attacker has somewhat regressed. But it didn’t come as a surprise when Mane started the new season on a high, scoring 7 goals in 12 league appearances for the Reds proving that his class is permanent. With the attacker turning 30 next year, Klopp believes that the Senegalese has his best years in front of him.
The Liverpool forward scored 51 goals in his last 3 seasons in the league and is one of the most established players in his position right now, therefore it will not be easy for the Reds to find a like for like replacement if they plan to sell him next summer. Considering his form this season, it’s the right decision from the Liverpool hierarchy to offer Mane a contract extension and secure him for the future.
