According to Fichajes, Liverpool are eyeing a move for Florian Neuhaus. The Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder has emerged as a top target for Jurgen Klopp as he looks to reinforce his options in the middle of the park. Neuhaus fits the bill well, as the German international is expected to leave Gladbach next season, and is likely to move to the Premier League.
Florian Neuhaus’ Slow Start To The Season
Despite the departure of Marco Rose, Florian Neuhaus had already become a star performer at Borussia Monchengladbach and was destined to receive his biggest breakthrough yet, under the leadership of Adi Hutter in this new season.
Unfortunately, it hasn’t worked quite well for the German international so far. Already three months into the new campaign, Neuhaus has made only five starts in the Bundesliga. It appears he has fallen behind Denis Zakaria and Kouadio Kone in the pecking order, with Hutter preferring the two due to their work ethic and aggression in the middle of the park.
Neuhaus, on the other hand, is more of a creative-minded midfielder, who can break apart defences with his accurate through balls. The former 1860 Munich starlet can be quite useful in the second line of press but is nowhere the near level of Zakaria or Kone, who were influential in the 5-0 win over Bayern Munich earlier this season.
Is Neuhaus Worth The Risk For Liverpool?
Florian Neuhaus’ progression has come to a halt this season, thanks to the ascension of the Kone. However, he remains one of Germany’s most talented midfield prospects, who is hoping to replace Toni Kroos in the future.
For Liverpool, though, their pursuit of Neuhaus could be a risky one as the midfielder needs to offer a lot more variety in his game before he can be successful, not only under Jurgen Klopp, but also in the Premier League.
In the Liverpool roster, Neuhaus’ dynamism and creative spark make him an ideal alternative for the likes of Naby Keita and Thiago Alcantara. However, one would argue that his overall gameplay is fairly limited, and the 24-year-old could thus be more suited to Manchester City’s possession-based system, where he will have the freedom to dictate the game.
Therefore, it would perhaps be a wiser move from the Reds to cede their pursuit of Neuhaus. They could instead shift their attention to his Gladbach teammate Zakaria, who is much more effective in the press and can be a long-term replacement for Jordan Henderson.
