In a recent report, Transfer Market Web claimed that Leeds United are facing stiff competition for Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah. It is believed that the Whites would have to rival Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Monchengladbach, and Crystal Palace in pursuit of the Gunners centre-forward whose contract runs out at the end of this campaign.
Nketiah’s Lack Of Playing Minutes At The Emirates Stadium This Season
Nketiah has played a bit-part role for Arsenal this season as he has often fallen behind Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette in the Gunners’ pecking order. The English striker has found the back of the net twice in two matches for Mikel Arteta’s side in the EFL Cup so far in this campaign.
The 22-year-old has given a good account of himself in cup football by averaging 4.0 shots, 0.5 crosses and 1.0 dribbles per game in the League Cup this season. He has even linked up play quite well with his teammates in the final third, based on his pass completion rate of 80.8% in domestic football (stats via whoscored).
What Will Nketiah Bring To Elland Road?
Nketiah has decent pace in his locker and can make some exciting runs with the ball in the attacking end of the field. He has also got a habit of finding space to get a few accurate strikes in at goal. However, the London-born sensation can sometimes be too selfish at times inside the opposition penalty box. He is yet to prove his worth at the highest level which makes him a risky option for Leeds United to pursue next year.
Even then, Nketiah could prove to be a decent acquisition for the Whites as he will bring some pace and goals to Marcelo Bielsa‘s frontline. We can expect him to offer some serious competition for Rodrigo, Patrick Bamford and Tyler Roberts for a regular starting spot at Elland Road.
At 22, Nketiah has a lot of room for improvement, so Bielsa should try everything in his power to win the race to secure the signature of the talented striker when the transfer window reopens in January or when he becomes a free agent next summer.
