In a recent print edition, Tuttosport mentioned that Everton are ‘in the running’ for Napoli winger Lorenzo Insigne. It has been stated that the Toffees are hoping to land the Italy international when he becomes a free agent at the end of this season.
Insigne’s Outstanding Form At The Diego Armando Maradona Stadium
Insigne is enjoying another impressive season at Naples and has been responsible for performing at a high level on the left side of Luciano Spalletti’s attack. The 30-year-old has appeared in 14 matches for Napoli during this campaign, netting five goals and earning four assists in all competitions.
The Frattamaggiore-born wing wizard has given a good account of himself in the attacking end of the pitch as he is averaging 1.0 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 3.6 shots, 2.5 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even been accurate with his ball distribution, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 82.4% in the top tier of Italian football (stats via whoscored).
What Will Insigne Bring To Everton?
Insigne can use his electric pace to get the better of his marker out on the wide areas. He usually turns on the afterburners to get to the byline or cut inside and cause problems for the opposition centre-backs. Insigne is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also play as a centre-forward if needed which makes him such an important member of Napoli’s starting XI.
The 51-time Italy international is a composed finisher in front of the opponent’s goal and can even create some promising opportunities for others around him. He also works hard off the ball and is a consistent performer at the highest level.
At 30, Insigne has still got a few good years left in him to play at his best, so Everton will do well to lure him to Goodison Park next summer. We can expect him to bring plenty of goals and assists to Rafael Benitez‘s frontline at the blue half of Merseyside over the next few years. Furthermore, Insigne has what it takes to form an excellent attacking partnership with Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin in English football, so Benitez should go all out to acquire his services.
