Tottenham Hotspur will look to recover from their midweek setback as they take on Burnley on Sunday. The Lilywhites are coming on the back of a disappointing loss to Mura in the UEFA Conference League and are running the risk of bowing out of the competition. But they will hope to shift their attention back to the Premier League this weekend, as they look to push for the top five spots.
Predicted Tottenham Lineup Vs Burnley
Defence
Antonio Conte is likely to field a full-strength eleven this weekend, after resting a majority of his star players in the last game. Eric Dier, for one, is destined to make his return to the starting eleven, hoping to marshal the three-man backline with his all experience.
Joe Rodon is likely to be axed after a disappointing showing in midweek while Davinson Sanchez may also return to the bench. It should pave the way for Ben Davies to return to the left side of the backline, although with Cristian Romero out, Japhet Tanganga remains a favourite to retain his role on the right-hand side.
Pierluigi Gollini had replaced Hugo Lloris in the midweek game against NS Mura. Conte is likely to revert that change, recalling Lloris in between the sticks in this crucial Premier League encounter.
Midfield
Conte will have Oliver Skipp back into contention after serving his suspension. One would expect the Englishman to slot right into the Tottenham midfield, alongside the ever-present figure of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. They are set to play a vital role in Spurs’ bid to control the game in the middle of the park.
Elsewhere in the second line of press, Conte is expected to shuffle his pack in the wingback slots. Emerson Royal should replace Matt Doherty on the right flank while Sergio Reguilon remains a favourite to occupy the opposite flank, at the expense of Ryan Sessegnon, who was sent off in midweek.
Attack
Moving forward, both Bryan Gil and Dele Alli were handed rare starts in midweek. But they may have to make way for Son Heung-Min and Lucas Moura in the attacking third, as Conte looks to field the strongest possible eleven against Burnley.
There should be no changes up top, though, as Harry Kane continues to spearhead the Tottenham frontline this weekend. The Englishman is hoping to replicate his international form with England in the Premier League, following a slow start to the campaign.
