In a recent print edition, Mundo Deportivo mentioned that Chelsea are keeping tabs on their former player, Eden Hazard’s situation at Real Madrid. It is understood that the Blues are watching the Belgian international closely ahead of a potential move during the January transfer window.
Hazard’s Lackluster Form In Spanish Football This Season
Hazard’s time at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium has been plagued by injuries. The ex-Premier League star has struggled to find consistency with his performances for Los Blancos this season. He has featured in ten matches for the Madrid giants in this campaign, picking up just one assist across all fronts.
The 30-year-old still deserves some credit for being productive with his attacking contributions despite the fact that most of his game time has come as a substitute this season. Hazard is averaging 0.8 shots, 1.6 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per game in La Liga. He has even been excellent when interchanging possession with his teammates from the wide areas, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 92.9% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Should Chelsea Bring Hazard Back In January?
Hazard has lost a yard of pace from his game but can still be a joy to watch when he is dribbling at full swing. He has an eye for a killer pass and can even score some important goals for his team when he is getting a regular run of games on the field. The 115-time Belgian international is primarily a left-sided winger but can also operate as a right-sided wide player or play in the number ten position if needed.
However, frequent injuries have completely disrupted his progress over the past few seasons. Hence, Hazard would be a risky option for the Blues to pursue this winter. Even then, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel would believe that he can get the best out of the Belgian talent as long as the player can steer clear of injuries.
Hence, it makes sense for the West London outfit to engineer a move to secure the services of the Belgian sensation when the transfer window commences at the start of next year. He could add some goals and assists to Tuchel’s frontline, so the German head coach should think about bringing Hazard back to Stamford Bridge in January.
