Eurosport has recently reported that Chelsea are keeping tabs on Fulham prospect Fabio Carvalho’s situation. However, it has been revealed that the Blues could face competition in the form of Liverpool and Southampton in the race to acquire the signature of the English whizkid.
Carvalho’s Decent Run Of Form At Craven Cottage
Carvalho has made an excellent start to this campaign after putting in a run of impressive performances as a key member of Fulham’s attack. The Portugal-born sensation has found the back of the net on three occasions and provided one assist in seven matches for the Cottagers this season.
The 19-year-old has given a good account of himself by averaging 1.9 shots, 1.7 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per game in the EFL Championship. He has even been careful when distributing possession in the opponent’s half as he completed 80.7% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Carvalho’s current contract at Craven Cottage runs out at the end of this campaign. Thus, Chelsea could potentially land him on a cut-price fee during the winter transfer window or wait until he becomes a free agent next summer.
Should Chelsea Boss Thomas Tuchel Move In For Carvalho?
Carvalho has shown that he has a knack for finding space for himself to get some shots in at goal. He can even engineer some decent chances for his teammates in the opponent’s half and is proficient at making some encouraging runs with the ball going forward.
The English talent is destined to have a very bright future in English football, so Chelsea would do well to get him on board in January or at the end of this campaign. At 19, Carvalho has already begun to show glimpses of his potential in the EFL Championship. Plus, he is highly versatile as he is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also fill in as a winger on either flank if needed.
The Fulham attacker is already good enough to fill in as a useful player in Thomas Tuchel‘s match-day squad at Stamford Bridge. Hence, the Blues head coach should think about moving in for him in the not-too-distant future as he could go on to become a real star for them in the coming seasons.
