According to a report by the Italian outlet Calciomercato, out of favour Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot has emerged as a transfer target for the reigning European champions Chelsea ahead of the January transfer window. Chelsea are looking to replace Saul Niguez who arrived this summer but isn’t favoured by Thomas Tuchel. The French midfielder has failed to meet the demands of his current manager Allegri and is struggling at the Italian club.
Adrien Rabiot Struggling At Juventus
Rabiot joined Juventus in 2019 and is currently in his third season now, but he has failed to make the kind of impact that had made top clubs in Europe line up to sign him. Rabiot never got going in the Juventus jersey the way he did for his previous club Paris Saint Germain in France. The Juventus midfielder has managed only six goals and five assists from his 95 appearances for the club till date. While he has started 8 Serie A games this season, manager Massimiliano Allegri has been critical of the 26-year-old on more than one occasions. He has been demanding more offensive output from the midfielder which is lacking from him at the moment.
If the situation doesn’t improve, Juventus will be seriously considering offloading the midfielder and Chelsea are believed to be monitoring the situation closely. Rabiot is playing a key role for his national team with a number of midfielders out injured and hence his performances will be key in getting a move to another big club in Europe.
Right Choice For Tuchel?
Chelsea have lots of players to play in the middle of the park with the likes of N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho and Saul Niguez but it is believed that the French midfielder will replace Saul Niguez who has not been able to impress Thomas Tuchel.
Rabiot, as shown previously, is a dynamic midfielder with him being physically strong, good in the air and having the ability to produce attacking numbers consistently. He will provide solidity in the midfield along with his national teammate N’Golo Kante as Chelsea will be hoping that they can be a strong pair. Rabiot is also a threat in deadball situations as he is very strong aerially. As of now, Rabiot has revealed that he wants to stay at Juventus but it remains to be seen if the situation changes with Chelsea heavily interested to bring the midfielder to Stamford bridge.
