According to Fichajes, Chelsea are one of the clubs interested in the services of Christopher Nkunku. The RB Leipzig playmaker is currently one of the most in-demand players in Europe due to his blazing performances in the Bundesliga. In addition to the Blues, the Frenchman is courted by Manchester United, Bayern Munich and most recently, Juventus.
Christopher Nkunku’s Form This Season
After a somewhat underwhelming campaign last season, Christopher Nkunku has come out all guns blazing this season, under the leadership of Jesse Marsch. He has been one of the star attractions in the Bundesliga so far, with ten goal involvements in just 11 matches while the attacker has also scored five goals in Champions League outings so far.
An attacking midfielder by trade, Nkunku has built a formidable partnership alongside Dani Olmo and Dominik Szoboszlai, becoming the only bright spark in an otherwise average campaign for RB Leipzig.
In addition to his productivity upfront, the Frenchman has made a solid impression with his technical quality and the ability to create chances for his teammates. He also boasts considerable speed that becomes useful on the counter while he is no slouch when it comes to physical duels either, making him an excellent all-round attacker in the final third.
A Good Option For Chelsea?
Christopher Nkunku could be a massive coup for Chelsea for multiple reasons. During his time in the Bundesliga, the Frenchman has shown extraordinary skills and productivity, which could take some of the scoring burdens away from the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner.
Perhaps more importantly, the Leipzig star is incredibly versatile. In addition to his favoured number ten role, he can operate on both flanks and even as a false nine if required. His versatility should make it easier for Thomas Tuchel to accommodate the attacker into his tactical setup next season.
In many ways, Nknuku could be an upgrade over the likes of Saul Niguez and Christian Pulisic. He is a far more direct individual, whose counter-attacking prowess and productivity are unique assets for any number ten.
Therefore, Nkunku could indeed be an excellent signing for Chelsea as they look to further strengthen their offensive unit next season. But in order to acquire the services of the Frenchman, the Blues may have to get rid of their fringe players including the likes of Ross Barkley, Hakim Ziyech and Pulisic, who has fallen out of favour under Tuchel this year.
