According to a recent report by the Fichajes, Aston Villa have been linked with an audacious move for the Spanish international Pau Torres of Villareal. The Villareal star was linked with several top clubs in Europe during the last transfer window. It is believed that Steven Gerrard is a huge fan of the 24-year-old, who is said to have a release clause of 50 million euros in his contract. Torres didn’t move to Tottenham last summer due to lack of Champions League football at the London club but if his stance changes, Villa would make no mistake to sign him.
Pau Torres A Star At Villareal
Pau Torres has been at Villareal since as a child and his commitment to the club in all these years has been unmatched. The Villarreal star is one of the most in-demand central defenders in European football and has been linked with several top clubs in Europe namely Manchester United and Real Madrid in the past. Villareal are currently playing in Europe’s top competition, the Champions League, and he has been a key player for them to achieve such heights.
This season Torres has started on a high note again for both his club and country. He was an integral part of the Spanish squad that reached the UEFA Nations League final by beating the Euro champions Italy in the semi-final. He is considered a leader at the back and his influence on the pitch is believed to make any club stronger.
Why Gerrard Should Buy The Spanish Defender?
Steven Gerrard recently took over Aston Villa and won his first game in-charge ending Villa’s 5 game winless run. Aston Villa have not looked solid defensively with the likes of Tyrone Mings and Axel Tuanzebe in the back. Gerrard wants to add another player in this department and has identified Pau Torres as a bombshell signing.
The Spaniard has caught the eye of several clubs through his performances at Villareal and also the fact that he won the Europa League last season. He is a commanding player at the back and is technically very sound. Torres is comfortable with the ball at his feet and hence is the ideal player to have to play out from the back. His price of 50 million euros won’t be an issue for Villa since Grealish’s huge transfer money is still lying in the bank, but it remains to be seen if his stance of playing in the Champions League changs. It would be a dream signing for the Villa fans if the deal goes through.
