In a recent interview with talkSPORT, former Premier League forward Gabriel Agbonlahor has urged Aston Villa to land Rangers winger Ryan Kent. When quizzed about who the new Villans boss Steven Gerrard should target, Agbonlahor said,
“Ryan Kent. He’s an exciting player and could make the step and do a job in the Premier League.”
Kent’s Impressive Run Of Form At The Ibrox Stadium This Season
Kent has already produced a few eye-catching performances for Rangers this season and deserves credit for proving his worth as a consistent performer in Scottish football. The 25-year-old has made 11 appearances for the Glaswegian giants so far in this campaign, netting one goal and grabbing five assists across all fronts.
The Oldham-born sensation has caught the eye by averaging 2.2 shots, 1.3 key passes and 1.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Scottish Premiership. He has even been excellent when distributing possession in the attacking third of the field, based on his pass completion rate of 88.6% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Is Kent A Good Choice For Aston Villa?
Kent can use his quickness and agility to make some decent runs with the ball out on the wide areas. He is a tough man to stop when left isolated in a 1v1 situation with the opposition and can be quite accurate with his passing. Kent primarily operates on the left wing but can also play on the right flank or assume the duties of a secondary striker down the middle if needed.
The English speedster has proven himself to be a decent playmaker and is also not afraid to have a strike at goal from long range. Still, there are some question marks over whether he can maintain his good form in the Premier League if the Villans decide to listen to Agbonlahor’s advice by sealing a move for the player.
Aston Villa‘s new boss, Steven Gerrard knows Kent well from their time together at the Ibrox Stadium, so the English head coach would be the ideal man to oversee his development at Villa Park over the next few years. At 25, the Rangers star’s best years are ahead of him which makes him an excellent choice for the West Midlands outfit to consider during this winter transfer window.
