West Ham United faced off against Everton at Goodison Park earlier today as they hoped to pick up a positive result on the road. Both teams canceled each other out in the first 45 minutes and went into the half-time break with a goalless scoreline.
Angelo Ogbonna finally broke the deadlock in the 74th minute via a great header as the Hammers managed to grind out an impressive 1-0 win at the blue half of Merseyside.
Let’s take a look at how each West Ham player fared during the match against the Toffees.
GK: Łukasz Fabiański – 7/10
The Polish keeper made a couple of decent saves in the game and secured a confidence-boosting clean sheet away from home.
RB: Ben Johnson – 7/10
He kept a solid defensive shape inside his half and orchestrated one good chance in the final third.
CB: Kurt Zouma – 7/10
Zouma cleared his lines when required and made one important interception during the game.
CB: Angelo Ogbonna – 8/10
The West Ham centre-back did enough work defensively to keep the Toffees at bay and scored the only goal of the game with a flicked header in the 74th minute.
LB: Aaron Cresswell – 7/10
He pulled off multiple crucial clearances throughout the game but struggled to make an impact in the opponent’s half.
CM: Declan Rice – 7.5/10
The English midfield ace dominated the game in midfield and managed to create two good chances in the attacking end of the pitch.
CM: Tomas Soucek – 7/10
Soucek offered decent protection for his teammates at the back and was also lively going forward. He got replaced in the 78th minute.
RM: Jarrod Bowen – 8/10
The English winger put in a great delivery from a corner to set up Ogbonna’s match-winner. He also caused all kinds of problems for the opposition defenders.
CAM: Said Benrahma – 6.5/10
Benrahma had some bright moments in the final third but didn’t have his shooting boots on today.
LM: Pablo Fornals – 6.5/10
The Spaniard worked hard to help his teammates at the back but was lacklustre in the Everton half.
ST: Michail Antonio – 6.5/10
The Hammers striker created some decent openings for others around him but got booked for diving. He also failed to find the finishing touch in front of the Toffees goal.
Substitutes:
CB: Craig Dawson – 6.5/10
Dawson did well to see out the victory with his clean sheet intact.
CAM: Manuel Lanzini – N/A
He hardly had any time to influence the game.
RM: Andriy Yarmolenko – N/A
Yarmolenko didn’t get enough minutes to warrant a rating.
