Calciomercato has recently reported that Tottenham Hotspur are set to rival Juventus in pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain striker Mauro Icardi. It is understood that Spurs want to recruit the Argentine marksman who might leave PSG at the end of this season.
Icardi’s Season Of Mixed Emotions At Parc des Princes
Icardi has made a positive start to this campaign as he has already put in a few productive displays as a key member of Mauricio Pochettino’s attack. The 28-year-old banged in three goals in eight league appearances for the Parisian giants this season in multiple competitions.
Exactly half of the Argentine international’s appearances have come off the bench which explains why he is only averaging 1.0 shots and 0.4 key passes per 90 minutes in the Ligue 1. Icardi has distributed the ball relatively well in the opponent’s half, based on his pass completion rate of 78% in the French top-flight (stats via whoscored).
The Rosario-born talent has lost his first-team privileges following Lionel Messi’s arrival at Paris last summer. Hence, it is only logical for the player to seek a move elsewhere if he wants to earn more playing opportunities in the coming seasons which could open the door for Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo to land him.
Is Icardi The Right Choice For Spurs?
Icardi is a moderately-paced striker who can make some intelligent runs with the ball and is usually an unforgiving finisher in the attacking end of the pitch. He can get himself into some promising positions in and around the opponent’s penalty box.
The eight-time Argentine international has got a great leap in him and is an excellent header of the ball. He can be a consistent goal-getter when he is playing regularly on the pitch, so he will be a massive coup for Spurs next summer.
Icardi could potentially go on to form a deadly attacking partnership with Harry Kane and Heung-min Son at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. At 28, Icardi is still playing at his prime and could go on to become a real fan-favourite at the English capital in the coming seasons. Thus, he will be an excellent choice for the North London giants to consider at the end of this campaign.
