According to A Bola, as cited by Sport Witness, Tottenham are among clubs interested in Abdul Mumin. The Vitoria Guimaraes defender has emerged as an in-demand star in the Portuguese top-flight, with multiple clubs including Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Spurs keeping tabs on his situation at the club. Mumin’s current contract at Vitoria expires in 2024, but he is expected to move on much sooner.
Who Is Abdul Mumin?
Formerly of Nordsjaelland, Abdul Mumin came to Vitoria Guimaraes last summer, on a free transfer. The move has worked wonders for the Portuguese outfit, as Mumin has since established himself as one of the most in-demand defenders in Liga Primeira.
The 23-year-old has already notched up 36 competitive appearances for Vitoria, playing a vital role in the club’s seventh-placed finish last season. His contributions have been critical this season as well, with Vitoria starting the campaign by conceding only eight goals in nine matches.
A centre-back by trade, Mumin has made a solid impression with his physique and defensive work rate. Standing at 1.88m, his height gives him a considerable advantage in aerial and physical duels, while the youngster is equally capable in one-on-one duels.
Moreover, Mumin offers excellent versatility in defence. He can play as a right-back if required and can operate on both ends of central defence, making it significantly easier for his coach to accommodate him into the starting eleven.
Is He A Good Option For Tottenham?
Tottenham Hotspur entering the market for a new defender is hardly surprising, as the club does require a complete makeover in the defensive unit. Davinson Sanchez hasn’t had much success since his move from Ajax while questions remain over the inconsistency and fragility of Eric Dier.
The youngsters Japhet Tanganga and Joe Rodon haven’t been able to continue their progress at a pace they would have liked. As such, the arrival of some new faces in defence could be useful for head coach Nuno Espirito Santo.
Abdul Mumin, in that regard, might not be a bad option and can occupy Willy Boly’s role in Nuno’s tactical setup. He can operate on the right-hand side of the backline, with his ability to play as a right-back opening up a host of tactical possibilities for the Portuguese tactician.
He can offer competition for the first-choice centre-backs whilst offering depth and versatility to the table. Mumin might not cost a fortune either, which makes him an excellent investment option for the club.
