Ronaldo Urges Manchester United To Sign Juventus Winger: Is He Needed At Old Trafford?

Recent reports from Italian media outlet Calcio Mercato state that Cristiano Ronaldo wants to reunite with his former Juventus teammate Federico Chiesa as he is pushing Manchester United to secure a deal for the Italy international as soon as possible.

Federico Chiesa: A Superstar In The Making

Having come through the ranks at Fiorentina, Federico Chiesa signed for Juventus in October 2020 on a two-year loan deal. Official reports confirm that the move will be made permanent in the summer of 2022 for a fee in the region of 60m Euros (£54m).

With 16 goals and 11 assists in 50 appearances, it’d be fair to say that he has been a decent signing for the Bianconeri so far. Despite Juventus’ failure to lift the domestic league title last season, his performances for Italy in the Euro 2020 championship turned him into one of the hottest transfer prospects in the world.

Even this season, he has managed to put up some awe-inspiring numbers on the board – averaging 1.5 shots, 1.8 key passes, 2 dribbles, 1.7 crosses and 1.2 long balls per 90 minutes in the Italian top-flight. Furthermore, with an average WhoScored rating of 7.06, he has been one of the best performers in the league despite his team struggling in the 7^th position with just three wins in seven matches.

Besides having attributes like pace, strength and agility, it’s his versatility that appeals the most. The 23-year-old is skilled enough to play on the left-wing, right-wing, or even a more central position as a secondary striker.

Is He Needed At Old Trafford?

As talented as Chiesa is, Manchester United don’t really need another attacker at present as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is stacked with options in this department – Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, Cristiano Ronaldo, Anthony Martial, Edinson Cavani, Mason Greenwood, and Jesse Lingard to name a few. Spending close to a hundred million Euros for the 34-times Italy international makes little to no sense.

Solskjaer should instead focus on strengthening his midfield in the upcoming transfer window, as the McFred partnership in the middle of the park isn’t going to help him win silverware anytime soon.
