Newcastle United faced off against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park earlier tonight as they looked to pick up a positive result on the road. Both sides fought tooth and nail in the first half but failed to make the opening breakthrough as they went into the half-time interval with a goalless scoreline.
Christian Benteke finally managed to break the deadlock in the 56th minute when he gave the Eagles the lead. However, Callum Wilson equalised for the Magpies just nine minutes later when he found the back of the net with an excellent finish. The contest ended with the Tyneside outfit securing a hard-fought 1-1 draw at South London.
Let’s take a look at how each Newcastle United player performed during the clash against the Eagles.
GK: Karl Darlow – 6.5/10
The English keeper made a couple of decent saves during the game but was helpless to stop Benteke from scoring early in the second half.
RB: Javier Manquillo – 6/10
The Spaniard cleared the danger when needed and was strong in the air. However, he failed to make an impact in the final third.
CB: Emil Krafth – 7.5/10
Krafth got stuck in with some crunching tackles and made plenty of last-gasp clearances at the back. He even picked up an assist for setting up Wilson’s equaliser.
CB: Jamaal Lascelles – 6.5/10
He made a lot of crucial clearances inside his half and made one key chance in the Eagles’ half.
CB: Ciaran Clark – 6.5/10
Clark won some 50-50 aerial duels during the game and was a rock at the back for Newcastle.
LB: Matt Ritchie – 6.5/10
He performed his defensive duties well and engineered one good chance during the game.
CM: Isaac Hayden – 6.5/10
Hayden offered decent protection for his teammates at the back and made a couple of promising runs going forward.
CM: Sean Longstaff – 7/10
The English midfield ace was always willing to get stuck in with some solid tackles but got replaced in the 65th minute.
CM: Ryan Fraser – 6/10
Fraser hardly got a foothold in the game but orchestrated a good chance in the final third.
ST: Allan Saint-Maximin – 6/10
He was marked out of the game by the Palace defenders. Saint-Maximin hardly got a sniff at goal during his time on the field.
ST: Callum Wilson – 7/10
Wilson scored a great equaliser with an acrobatic finish to rescue a point for the Magpies.
Substitutes:
CM: Joe Willock – 6/10
He added some energy to Newcastle’s midfield.
CAM: Miguel Almiron – 6.5/10
Almiron had a couple of lively moments in the Palace half.
ST: Joelinton – 6/10
He didn’t get any real chances to score.
