Bayern Munich are aiming to maintain their excellent form in the UEFA Champions League as they take on SL Benfica on Tuesday. After a run of three big wins, it will be a chance for the Bavarians to seal their place at the top of Group E and book their place in the knockout rounds. Julian Nagelsmann’s men are also hoping to maintain their free-scoring run, having netted at least three goals in each of their group stage games so far.
Predicted Bayern Munich Lineup Vs Benfica
Defence
Nagelsmann made some noticeable changes against Union Berlin on the weekend. Dayot Upamecano, in particular, had to settle for a place on the bench and the imposing Frenchman will be hoping to make his return.
Upamecano is likely to start alongside Niklas Sule, as his usual defensive partner Lucas Hernandez had taken a slight knock in the last game. The Frenchman is likely to be in contention for a start, though.
At right-back, the young Josip Stanisic should make way for Benjamin Pavard. The Frenchman will be keen on getting back to his best after a couple of poor performances at the back. The same can be said for Manuel Neuer as well, who notably conceded five goals against Gladbach recently.
As for the left-back slot, Alphonso Davies appears to be fully fit and should, therefore, retain his place in the team. Omar Richards is in line to start, in case the Canadian international misses out.
Midfield
In midfield, Leon Goretzka’s fitness remains a doubt heading into this game. The former Schalke midfielder was poor against Gladbach while missing the Union Berlin game with a bruised heel.
He could be out once again, thus paving the way for Marcel Sabitzer to start alongside Joshua Kimmich in the middle of the park. Corentin Tolisso is another option for Nagelsmann, but the former Lyon starlet wasn’t able to make an impression on the weekend.
Attack
Nagelsmann is expected to make just one change in the offensive department. Kingsley Coman has performed very well since returning to full fitness but might make way for Serge Gnabry on the right flank.
The German international should renew his all-German creative partnership between him, Thomas Muller and Leroy Sane. Coman and Jamal Musiala remain potential alternatives, while the Bayern frontline is set to be led by none other than Robert Lewandowski.
