In a recent print edition, AS stated that Manchester City are ‘in the fight’ for Borussia Dortmund centre-forward Erling Haaland. It has also been revealed that the Mancunian giants could face stiff competition from Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in the race to recruit the Norwegian goal machine.
Haaland’s Magnificent Record In German Football This Season
Haaland has made an excellent start to this campaign after banging in some important goals for Marco Rose’s team. The 21-year-old has found the back of the net on 11 occasions and provided four assists in eight matches for the German outfit this term in various competitions.
The Leeds-born talent has been a joy to watch in the attacking end of the pitch as he is averaging 5.2 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per game in the German Bundesliga. However, he has sometimes been guilty of giving away the ball cheaply when distributing it in the final third based on his pass completion rate of 70.8% in the German top tier (stats via whoscored).
At 21, Haaland has truly established himself amongst the best strikers in world football, so he could be a brilliant acquisition for Man City if Pep Guardiola can devise a way to win the chase for his services in the not-too-distant future.
Should Man City Step Up Their Pursuit Of Haaland?
Haaland has been an unstoppable force for Dortmund in front of the opposition goal as he has continued to score goals at such a high rate in German football. He can even contribute by picking up some assists in the final third which is why the Mancunian giants should consider going all out to land him.
The 15-time Norway international has even got the quickness to pull off a few dangerous runs with the ball in behind the opponent’s backline. Furthermore, he can use his towering 1.94m to dominate the aerial battle which makes him a potent threat from indirect set-pieces.
We can expect Haaland to add plenty of pace and physicality to Man City’s attack. At the moment, Pep Guardiola needs to recruit a fresh face in attack as he is yet to replace Sergio Aguero, who joined Barcelona last summer. Haaland fits the bill perfectly as he is a proven goal-getter who could help Man City maintain their stranglehold in domestic football and also, challenge for the UEFA Champions League trophy once again in the coming seasons.
