In a recent print edition, Gazzetta dello Sport mentioned that Manchester City are keeping a keen eye on Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic. It is understood that the Mancunian giants would have to pay around €60m if they want to land the Serbian forward this January.
Vlahovic’s Impressive Form At Florence This Season
Vlahovic has made a solid start to this campaign after putting in a run of goal-scoring displays as the focal point of Fiorentina’s attack. The ex-Partizan youngster has banged in seven goals and picked up one assist in 11 matches for the Florence-based outfit this season across all fronts.
The 21-year-old has caught the eye by averaging 3.0 shots, 0.9 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per game in Serie A so far. However, he has been a bit sloppy with his ball distribution in the final third, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 71.4% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
What Will Vlahovic Add To Manchester City Boss Pep Guardiola’s Side?
Standing at 1.90m, Vlahovic is a towering figure in the attacking end of the field and loves to utilise his strength to bully the opposition centre-halves. He can use his robust frame to hold the ball up for his teammates and can leap above his marker to get a few headers in on-target.
The Serbian talent is proving his worth as a composed finisher in the final third and can even create some inviting openings for others around him. However, his link-up play has a lot of room for improvement which raises some concerns over whether he is good enough to succeed in Pep Guardiola‘s playing style of possession-based football at the Etihad Stadium.
At the moment, Man City are in dire need of a new forward as they are yet to replace Sergio Aguero, who joined Barcelona last summer. Vlahovic could be a decent option for the Mancunian giants as he will undeniably add a lot of goals and physicality to Guardiola’s frontline. Moreover, the Serbian sensation would offer more as a centre-forward than what the likes of Ferran Torres, Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus have collectively produced so far this season.
