In a recent report, CBS Sports mentioned that Liverpool are facing stiff competition for FC Dallas forward Ricardo Pepi. It is understood that the Reds will have to compete with Inter Milan, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Ajax in the race to recruit the United States international.
Pepi’s Decent Run Of Form At The Toyota Stadium
The 18-year-old has caught the eye with his offensive contributions in Major League Soccer. Pepi has banged in 16 goals and picked up four assists in 55 matches for the Texas outfit so far in all competitions.
The promising attacker has enjoyed a good run of form for FC Dallas this year after averaging 2.4 shots, 1.0 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per game in the American top-flight. He has even interchanged possession relatively well in the opponent’s half, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 77.9% in league football (stats via whoscored).
Pepi’s current contract with the Texas club runs out at the end of 2026, so Liverpool will have to make a good offer if they are to stand a chance of winning the chase for his services next year.
Liverpool Facing Competition For Pepi: Is He A Prospect For The Future?
Pepi has a good work rate and can pull off a few impressive runs with the ball towards the opponent’s penalty area. The El Paso-born sensation can also use his strong 1.85m frame to dominate the opposition defenders in the air but still has a lot to learn before he can play for a top club like Liverpool week in week out.
Pepi is a good penalty taker as well but there is no hiding from the fact that he is still quite raw and would need a lot of time before he can challenge for a regular starting place in Premier League football if the Reds manage to land him in the coming years.
The American prospect’s impressive goal-scoring numbers prove that he has the potential to become a world-class player in his position someday. He is undeniably a prospect to watch out for in the future as long as he continues to develop himself on the training field. Hence, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp should strongly consider going all out to recruit Pepi in January or at the end of this campaign.
