In a recent report, The Sun revealed that Clermont forward Mohamed Bayo is on West Ham United’s radar. It is understood that the Hammers could face competition in the form of Brighton and Hove Albion and Bordeaux in pursuit of the Guinea international.
Bayo’s Excellent Form In French Football
Bayo has begun this campaign positively after putting in a series of impressive performances as the spearhead of the French club’s attack. The 23-year-old has banged in five goals and provided two assists in eight matches for Clermont this season across all fronts.
The Clermont-Ferrand-born sensation has been a consistent performer in the final third as he is averaging 3.0 shots, 1.3 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game in Ligue 1. However, he needs to take care of the ball a bit better in the final third, based on his pass completion rate of 74.8% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Bayo has established himself as one of the most prolific goal-getters in French football, so David Moyes should consider orchestrating a concrete move to bring him to the London Stadium in January or at the end of this season.
What Will Bayo Add To West Ham United’s Side?
Bayo has decent pace in his locker and can make some well-timed runs in behind the opponent’s half. He has a good work rate and can create some inviting chances for others around him in the attacking end of the field.
The two-time Guinea international is slowly transforming himself into a lethal finisher in front of the opposition goal. However, there are some question marks over whether he can maintain his good form in the Premier League where he will have to cope with the physical nature of English football.
At 23, Bayo’s best years are ahead of him, so he could be a good, long-term option for West Ham United to pursue next summer. The Clermont star is good enough to keep Michail Antonio on his toes for the right to lead the line at the London Stadium in the coming seasons. Bayo will also add some much-needed depth to Moyes‘ match-day squad if the Hammers decide to move in for him next year.
