Borussia Dortmund are aiming to continue their excellent run of form as they take on Ajax on Tuesday. The Black and Yellows are heading into this game on the back of a three-game winning streak and another three points, this time in the UEFA Champions League, could solidify their position at the top of Group C standings.
Predicted Borussia Dortmund Lineup Vs Ajax
Defence
Dan-Axel Zagadou and Raphael Guerreiro are two major doubts for Borussia Dortmund heading into this game. Neither of them are likely to be risked as Marco Rose continues with Nico Schulz at left-back.
Thomas Meunier is set to continue at right-back as well, after producing yet another impressive display this weekend. As for the central defensive roles, Mats Hummels was given a breather in the form of an early second-half substitution against Mainz.
The veteran defender thus remains a favourite to retain his role at centre-back ahead of Marin Pongracic, as he renews his defensive partnership alongside the highly in-form Manuel Akanji.
Dortmund will be looking for back to back clean sheets in the Champions League, especially after Gregor Kobel settled for another missed clean sheet in the Bundesliga this past weekend.
Midfield
Tuesday’s game could come too soon for Mahmoud Dahoud so Rose might continue with Jude Bellingham and Julian Brandt in the advanced midfield roles. Their ability to act as ball carriers play a vital role in the club’s chance creation.
As for the holding midfield slot, Emre Can will be battling with Axel Witsel for a start. Can was the one to start in the last game, and it won’t be surprising to see the German international retaining his place in the side due to his mobility and aggression which could be useful in thwarting the Ajax midfield this midweek.
Attack
Erling Haaland surprised everyone to start the game against Mainz. The Norwegian international will be hoping to start the game once again, spearheading the Borussia Dortmund attack alongside Marco Reus and Donyell Malen, who is set to operate in a wider role.
Marco Rose does have alternatives at his disposal, including Thorgan Hazard and Reinier, while Giovanni Reyna is hoping to get back to full fitness as well. However, the American international is unlikely to make the squad this midweek.
