Barcelona entertained Real Madrid at the Nou Camp earlier today as they hoped to earn a victory at home in this Clasico. The Catalans made a poor start to the game as they conceded the opening goal in the 32nd minute when David Alaba broke the deadlock for Los Blancos with a ferocious shot. Barca struggled to come up with an immediate response and went into the half-time interval with a 1-0 deficit.
The home team kept themselves in the game for most of the second half but conceded another goal in the 93rd minute when Lucas Vazquez got his name on the scoresheet. Sergio Aguero scored a consolation goal for Barca in injury-time as they crashed to a 2-1 home defeat in La Liga.
Let’s take a look at how each Barcelona player performed during the clash against Los Blancos.
GK: Marc-André ter Stegen – 6/10
The German keeper made a few solid saves but couldn’t stop Los Blancos from scoring twice today.
RB: Oscar Mingueza – 6/10
He got stuck in with some solid tackles in the first 45 minutes and got replaced at half-time.
CB: Gerard Pique – 6/10
The Spanish defender won the ball back a couple of times and cleared the danger at times during the game. However, he will be disappointed after allowing two goals today.
CB: Eric Garcia – 6.5/10
Garcia showed some signs of improvement when defending inside his half. He was even tidy with his passing.
LB: Jordi Alba – 7/10
The Spaniard got stuck in with some solid tackles and created two good chances in the final third.
CM: Frenkie de Jong – 6.5/10
He got stuck in with a few tackles but struggled to make an impact in the attacking third of the pitch.
CM: Sergio Busquets – 7/10
Busquets anchored the midfield quite effectively to stop some of Madrid’s attacks. He made one key opportunity in the opponent’s half.
CM: Gavi – 6/10
The youngster struggled to give a good account of himself at the centre of the park. It seems like the occasion got to him.
RW: Sergiño Dest – 6.5/10
Dest produced a battling display down the right flank and deserves credit for setting up Sergio Aguero’s goal in injury-time.
ST: Memphis Depay – 7/10
The Dutch striker kept himself busy by creating some decent chances for others around him. However, he didn’t get too many sniffs at goal.
LW: Ansu Fati – 6.5/10
Fati was a constant menace for the Madrid defenders but was not clinical enough in front of the opposition goal.
Substitutes:
RW: Philippe Coutinho – 7/10
He made some encouraging runs with the ball in the final third.
ST: Sergio Aguero – 7/10
The Argentine forward got his name on the scoresheet with a late goal in injury-time.
CM: Sergi Roberto – 6/10
He offered very little after coming on in the 76th minute.
ST: Luuk de Jong – N/A
De Jong hardly had any time to make an impact.
