In a recent interview with El Desmarque, Arsenal full-back Hector Bellerin, who is currently playing on loan at Real Betis, has spoken out on his future. When asked about his future, Bellerin said,
“I don’t know, but I have always said if I did not want to be here next season, I would not have come from the beginning.
“There are many things to be decided but what I want to do is enjoy this season that I am here, and what has to happen will happen.”
Bellerin’s Solid Start To His Loan Spell At Real Betis
Bellerin has made an impressive start to his loan spell in Spain where he has already stated to show some glimpses of what he is capable of on the right side of Betis’ defence. The 26-year-old has been involved in four matches for the Spanish club this season, securing one assist in the process across various competitions.
The Spaniard has proven himself to be a valuable contributor down the right flank based on his average of 1.8 tackles, 1.3 interceptions, 3.0 clearances, 1.5 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even distributed the ball relatively well after completing 77.8% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Should The Gunners Cut Bellerin Loose Next Summer?
At the moment, Bellerin is playing at a high level as he has been a positive influence for Betis at both ends of the field. He can time his tackles well to earn possession back for his team and doesn’t take too many risks when clearing his lines at the back.
The Spanish sensation can use his electric pace to make some encouraging runs with the ball out on the wide areas. He is proficient at getting to the byline and has got the ability to deliver a few inviting crosses into the opponent’s penalty box.
Bellerin was only serving as a squad player at the Emirates Stadium last season. Unless Mikel Arteta changes his stance and decides to give him more playing opportunities in the coming seasons, it makes sense for the Spanish head coach to cut his countryman loose on a permanent basis next summer.
The four-time Spain international is under contract at the North London club until the summer of 2023. Thus, Arsenal would be better off selling him for a cut-price fee rather than lose him as a free agent upon the completion of his contract.
