In a recent report, The Sun revealed that Arsenal are eyeing a move for Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin. It is understood that the Gunners head coach Mikel Arteta is looking to replace Alexandre Lacazette and has identified the Toffees forward as an ideal replacement for the Frenchman.
Calvert-Lewin’s Impressive Form At Merseyside This Season
Calvert-Lewin proved his worth as a decent centre-forward at Goodison Park last season when he put in a series of productive performances for Everton. He banged in 21 goals in 39 appearances for the Merseyside outfit in the previous campaign across all fronts.
The 24-year-old has made a good start to this campaign as well after he scored three goals in three appearances for the Toffees so far. The Sheffield-born sensation has done well to average 1.0 clearances, 2.5 shots, 0.5 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. However, he was a bit sloppy when distributing the ball in the attacking end of the field, based on his pass completion rate of 68.7% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
At 24, Calvert-Lewin is only going to get better with each season, so Arteta should think about launching an offer to bring him to the Emirates Stadium during the January transfer window or when this season concludes next summer.
What Will Calvert-Lewin Bring To The Emirates Stadium?
Calvert-Lewin is a moderately paced forward who can use his robust 1.89m frame to dominate the opposition in the air and win some important headers for his team. He has transformed himself into a lethal goal-getter up top but needs to work on improving his playmaking if he wants to be a success story at Arsenal.
We can expect Calvert-Lewin to bring a lot of physicality and goals to Arteta’s frontline at the Emirates Stadium if the Gunners can successfully get him on board. He will be an upgrade over Alexandre Lacazette, who has lost his first-team privileges at North London.
However, Calvert-Lewin won’t come cheap as his current contract with Everton runs out in the summer of 2025. Still, Arteta would be wise to make an offer to secure the signature of the talented marksman as he could go on to form a lethal attacking partnership with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the North London club in the coming seasons.
