West Ham United locked horns with Leeds United at Elland Road earlier today as they looked to secure maximum points from this away game. The Hammers made a slow start to the game as they conceded the opening goal in the 19th minute when Raphinha found the back of the net for the Whites. However, David Moyes’ men couldn’t come up with an immediate response and were trailing at half-time by a narrow 1-0 scoreline.
The East London club finally got themselves back in the game in the 67th minute when Junior Firpo scored an unfortunate own goal. Michail Antonio went on to win the game for the Hammers with an excellent solo goal in the 90th minute. The contest finished 2-1 in favour of the Hammers after they managed to pull off a wonderful second-half comeback.
Let’s take a look at how each West Ham player performed during the contest versus the Whites.
GK: Łukasz Fabiański – 6.5/10
The Polish keeper made a few solid saves to restrict the Whites to just one goal during the 90 minutes. However, he won’t be pleased after conceding an early goal.
RB: Vladimír Coufal – 7/10
Coufal did his fair share of defending and performed well to create a few decent chances in the final third.
CB: Kurt Zouma – 7/10
The French defender cleared the danger when required and was a dominant presence in the air.
CB: Angelo Ogbonna – 6.5/10
Ogbonna was strong in the air and did his best to keep the Leeds attackers frustrated throughout the game.
LB: Aaron Cresswell – 7/10
He made a couple of clearances and was quite lively in the opposition half. He even created two good chances for his teammates.
CM: Tomas Soucek – 6/10
Soucek worked hard at the centre of the park but struggled to influence the game in the Leeds half.
CM: Declan Rice – 7/10
Rice made a couple of crunching tackles and ended the game with an assist to his name.
RM: Jarrod Bowen – 6.5/10
The English attacker put in a tireless shift but never looked like he would score.
CAM: Pablo Fornals – 6.5/10
He had his moments but didn’t do nearly enough to get his name on the scoresheet. He got replaced in the second half.
LM: Said Benrahma – 8/10
Benrahma was a constant threat in the attacking end of the field. He made some encouraging runs with the ball and caused all kinds of problems for the Leeds defenders.
ST: Michail Antonio – 9/10
Antonio scored an excellent solo goal to win the game for West Ham in the 90th minute.
Substitutes:
CAM: Nikola Vlasic – 6/10
He added some energy to West Ham’s attack.
