Manchester City move to second place in the Premier League table after securing a 1-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this afternoon. It was a morale boosting victory for the defending champions who had lost this exact fixture a few months ago, in the UEFA Champions League final. The margin was the same this time around, but it was Gabriel Jesus’ second-half strike that turned out to be the main difference between the two sides.
Manchester City Player Ratings Vs Chelsea
Ederson 8/10
A solid goalkeeping display from Ederson this afternoon. He was always alert in between the sticks, clearing out any danger that came in his way. A deserved clean sheet.
Kyle Walker 8.5/10
Kyle Walker’s pace in the defensive unit was a massive asset for Manchester City. He recovered multiple balls for his teams while going forward whenever it was necessary. A top-notch performance from the right-back.
Ruben Dias 8.5/10
Ruben Dias marshalled the Man City defence extremely well. Put his body on the lines to prevent the Chelsea attackers from making an impact, heroically defending his clean sheet.
Aymeric Laporte 7.5/10
Aymeric Laporte offered excellent support to Dias at the heart of the Man City backline. Always a reliable defensive option when Chelsea were threatening on the counter.
Joao Cancelo 8.5/10
It was a heroic display from Joao Cancelo in the left-back position. He played his socks off trying to defend the clean sheet while offering constant support to Grealish whenever it was required.
Rodri 7.5/10
Rodri controlled the game well, especially in the first half. Things got a bit more difficult after the restart as Chelsea started to push forward for the equaliser, but he did his job well in the number six slot.
Bernardo Silva 8/10
Bernardo Silva put in an excellent shift in the midfield position, not only playing a vital role in the approach play but also helping out defensively. The Portuguese international is really turning into a versatile star under Pep Guardiola.
Kevin de Bruyne 7/10
Kevin de Bruyne didn’t have the best of games in terms of creating chances in the final third. He was very useful in the build-up play, though, especially in the second half.
Gabriel Jesus 8/10
Gabriel Jesus operated at the right side of the Man City front three, offering excellent work ethic while showing a willingness to win back possession for his team. Showed his quality with a brilliant finish in the second half to score the winner.
Phil Foden 7/10
Starting a Premier League game after a while, Phil Foden didn’t do a whole lot going forward. But he made himself a target man for Man City while working hard in the first line of press.
Jack Grealish 7.5/10
Jack Grealish made a solid impression in this crunch game for Man City. He enjoyed the space out wide, always threatening the Chelsea defence with his direct runs and may even have scored had it not been for Eduardo Mendy’s late save.
