According to Calciomercato, AS Roma have expressed interest in Tanguy Ndombele. It appears Jose Mourinho is keen on a reunion with the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, who is facing an uncertain future at the club. The former Chelsea boss had worked closely with Ndombele during his time at Spurs last season and is targeting him to further boost his midfield options at Roma.
Does Tanguy Ndombele Have Any Future At Spurs?
Tanguy Ndombele has had a miserable time since joining Tottenham in 2019. Initially brought in by Mauricio Pochettino, the midfielder has endured difficulties in settling into the physical nature of the Premier League. Moreover, his progress at Spurs has been marred by injuries, controversies and lack of game-time.
The Frenchman does have 79 competitive appearances to his name at Tottenham. But he has often been a subject of criticism due to his lack of consistency, with new manager Nuno Espirito Santo, in particular, not being a huge fan of the former Lyon midfielder.
In fact, the Portuguese tactician has barely used Ndombele this season, playing him in only two Premier League matches. He was notably involved in the North London derby against Arsenal, a performance that might cost him his place in the starting eleven in the coming games, potentially leaving the 24-year-old trailing Oliver Skipp, Giovani Lo Celso and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the pecking order.
Should Tottenham Cash In On Ndombele?
Tanguy Ndombele has been nothing more than a liability for Tottenham Hotspur, since joining the club for a hefty fee of €60 million. His lack of consistency and a questionable injury record doesn’t make him a reliable outlet in midfield, with the player also struggling to establish himself as a regular for the club.
As such, the Lilywhites should definitely try to sanction a January sale for the Frenchman. His potential exit from North London will help the club free up a sizable wage budget as well as serving as a financial boost.
It will be useful in helping them fund move for any new targets. Tottenham have recently been linked with a move for Nicolo Zaniolo of AS Roma, so it will be interesting to see whether Fabio Paratici can sanction a potential swap deal with the Italian side.
However, it remains unlikely that Roma would want to sign Ndombele permanently in the summer. His hefty wage demands could be a problem, especially after the Giallorossi splurged a fortune on Tammy Abraham in the summer.
